Bios

Baker Birdwell was formed in 2005 by the merger of Birdwell Insurance Group and Baker & Baker Company. Our goal is to provide the finest in Individual Disability Coverage with the best service in the industry. With 50+ years of Disability experience, we are uniquely poised to provide solutions in disability insurance.

Clay Birdwell began his insurance career with Provident Life & Accident in 1983. He progressed through the ranks from opening a branch in Knoxville to heading Provident’s Fort Worth operations to ultimately becoming their Southwest Regional Sales Manager. In 1996, Clay decided to move back to middle Tennessee and began a disability brokerage operation for the Guardian. He grew this into what became the Birdwell Insurance Group.

Galt Baker began his insurance career with Corroon & Black Benefits in 1984, serving as an account manager and then an account executive. In 1988, he joined Taylor Financial Corporation to start a group benefits division. This became the genesis of Baker & Baker Company, a retail brokerage company formed in 1992 specializing in individual disability insurance as well as employee benefits.

Both Clay and Galt are Past Presidents of the Nashville Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors. They are members of the National Association of Health Underwriters and involved in many industry and community organizations.

Everyone here is cross-trained in dealing with all of our carriers so that whoever answers your call or email can get you whatever information you may need from proposals to underwriting to commissions. As you can see below, we have an experienced staff that can assist you in all your Disability Insurance needs. Here’s who to contact:

Kara coordinates most of our MetLife, Mutual of Omaha and Standard business. She started with Birdwell Insurance in 2001.

Christi coordinates most of our Principal, Assurity and Lloyds of London business. She started with Birdwell Insurance in 1998.

Nancy handles licensing and commissions for us. She started her career with Corroon and Black and joined Baker & Baker in 1993.
